Getting to know Alcoa
Alcoa is one of Tennessee’s original company towns — laid out in the 1910s by the Aluminum Company of America for its smelting operations, and named for it. The company-town origins left a legacy of planned neighborhoods, parks and its own city school system that the modern city still builds on.
Today Alcoa’s calling cards are connectivity and growth: McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) is inside the city, Alcoa Highway ties directly into Knoxville, and the corridor carries one of Blount County’s busiest retail and employment concentrations. Springbrook Park — a legacy of the original town plan — remains the city’s green centerpiece with its pool, trails and ballfields.
Getting around
Alcoa Highway (US-129) links directly to Knoxville and West Knox; TYS airport is in the city.
