Getting to know Downtown Maryville

Maryville has been the seat of Blount County since the 1790s, and its downtown wears that history well: a courthouse-town core of local restaurants, shops and civic buildings that has been steadily revitalized, with the Maryville-Alcoa Greenway running right through it along Pistol Creek.

Maryville College — founded in 1819, one of the oldest colleges in the South — sits at downtown’s edge, lending its campus woods, arts calendar and events to the whole community. The city is consistently a draw for buyers who want small-city walkability with the Great Smoky Mountains close: Townsend, the “peaceful side of the Smokies,” is about a half-hour down US-321, and the national park entrance follows shortly after.

Housing near downtown runs to historic cottages, Craftsman and traditional homes on established streets, with newer construction filling the city’s edges.

Getting around

US-321 and the Foothills Parkway head toward the Smokies; Alcoa Highway (US-129) connects to Knoxville and the airport.
