How big are the starter homes in East Tennessee? Size bands from the listings

The most starter homes state 1,000 to 1,199 square feet, 637 of the 1,858 that state a size, and the median home states 1,064 square feet.

East Tennessee has 1,860 active starter homes right now. The median asking price is $239,000, and the median home states 1,064 square feet. Starter homes are 14.9% of the 12,497 active listings in the edition. A starter home here is a home that states under 1,200 square feet or asks under $250,000.

The most starter homes state 1,000 to 1,199 square feet: 637 of the 1,858 that state a size, 34% of them. The median asking price there is $284,500.

Six size bands hold at least one home. The others: under 400 square feet has 26, 400 to 799 square feet has 302 and 800 to 999 square feet has 402.

The median asking price runs from $173,725 in the Tiny: under 400 sq ft band to $284,500 in the 1,000–1,199 sq ft band.

Asking price per square foot is $483 in the Tiny: under 400 sq ft band and $110 in the 1,600+ sq ft band, at the median.

The smallest home on the page states 200 square feet, at 41 Diane Circle, Crossville, TN 38572 in Crossville, asking $99,998.

A band is a range of stated sizes and nothing else. It says how big a home is, not what it is like inside.

The most starter homes were built from 1950 to 1979: 466 of the 1,858 that state a year, 25% of them. The median asking price there is $225,000.

Knoxville has the most starter homes, 339 of the 1,860, with a median asking price of $260,000. Sevierville comes next with 169.

The most starter homes ask $250,000 and up: 728 of the 1,832 priced homes, 40% of them. The median home in that band states 1,024 square feet.

Two new starter homes came on the market since the last edition.

The median starter home had been on the market 63 days, counted to this edition from the listing's own date, among 1,860 homes that state one.

Of the 12,497 active listings in the edition, 1,860 are starter homes, 14.9% of the market.

Every price on this page is an asking price on an active listing, taken from the MLS listings as of our latest check. A starter home here is a home that states under 1,200 square feet or asks under $250,000. A small home that asks more and a larger home that asks less are both counted. Asking price per square foot is a listing's asking price divided by its stated size, so it is an asking figure and nothing more. Two homes state no size and are left out of every size figure. A median needs three homes or it is left out.

Each row of the size and city tables below opens the homes behind it, so a count can be checked against the homes it counts. The city table lists the twelve cities with the most starter homes.

This page leaves a lot out on purpose. It does not read remarks or condition, and it says nothing about who a home is for or where anyone should look. What it can do is count the homes, size them by stated square feet and show where each one is.

The cards under the chart show the newest starter homes first. The search above them looks through every active listing, so a home that is not among the cards can still be found by city, price or size.

The most starter homes state 1,000 to 1,199 square feet: 637 of the 1,858 that state a size, 34% of them, with a median asking price of $284,500.
